Courtney Nelson is an Investor with BDMI, Bertelsmann’s Venture Capital fund. At BDMI, Courtney is responsible for deal origination, transaction execution, portfolio management and thesis development. She is a board observer or adviser for companies including Food52, Clique Brands, The Athletic, Dashbot, ART19, Zergnet, Wibbitz, Inked Brands, Vemba, and Inverse. Courtney joined BDMI from Catalyst Investors, a NYC-based growth equity firm investing in technology-enabled businesses. Prior to joining Catalyst, she worked at Greenhill & Company in their Mergers & Acquisitions group, where she worked on transactions across various industries with an emphasis on consumer and retail. Her other prior work experience includes positions at Business Insider and Allen & Company. Courtney was recently named as one of Business Insider’s “30 and Under: Rising Stars in Venture.” She holds a bachelor’s degree from McGill University, with concentrations in Finance and French and a minor in European History. Courtney serves as an alumni adviser for McGill and a mentor for BUILD, a non-profit dedicated to proving the power of experiential learning through entrepreneurship and empowering youth in under-resourced communities. She is on the Advisory Board for Venture For America, a non-profit dedicated to creating economic opportunity in American cities by mobilizing the next generation of entrepreneurs and equipping them with the skills and resources they need to create jobs.
