Anathem’s Founder and Managing Partner, Crystal McKellar, has spent 15 years advising and investing in technology companies.

Prior to Anathem, she served as a Managing Director at a large growth-stage venture capital fund backed by Peter Thiel, where she sourced, led diligence, structured, and worked closely with some of the fund’s most successful health care and technology investments, including Palantir, Fractyl Labs, Siren, and Auris Surgical Robotics, which was acquired by J&J for $3.4 billion in cash and up to an additional $2.35 billion in contingent payments in 2019. Crystal leads Anathem’s investment activity, and currently serves on the boards of FocusMotion and Cooler Heads, and as an Advisor at Siren. Crystal is a Kauffman Fellows Mentor, and has served as a mentor at TechStars and the Ad Astra tech incubator programs. Crystal is a proud member of All Raise and is a frequent speaker on entrepreneurship and innovation at technology conferences and finance events. Crystal is also a guest contributor at TechCrunch. Earlier in her career, Crystal practiced law at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York and Morrison & Foerster in California, where she worked with Fortune 500 companies and the world’s largest financial institutions as they navigated times of crisis and opportunity.

Crystal graduated magna cum laude from Yale University; earned a Master’s Degree with Distinction from the University of Oxford, and earned a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
